Brewing in Edmonton

With some of the world’s best malt barley grown in Alberta, Canada — big drinks brands source vast quantities of Alberta grains for posh top-shelf drinks — this western Canadian province and its beer crafters are poised to rival Belgium’s handmade and bottled best.

In Edmonton, a small but growing craft beer scene sees worthy new breweries going head to head.  This Fall, barkeeps start pulling pints at Situation Brewery on Old Strathcona’s Whyte Avenue.  In Spring 2016, Ritchie Market opens. Check out the Yellowhead Brewery room with its signature, salvaged shark aka Frank.

Add  Alley Kat Brewing Company — the Edmonton craft beer original with more than 20 years of brewing history — to your list. Especially as its Scona Gold Kolsch won gold in its category at the 2015 Canadian Brewing Awards, and earned coveted top billing as Beer of the Year. Alley Kat is also available in Seoul, South Korea. You can tour the brewery free.
